Faith (in the face of Covid 19)

beautiful-2405131_1920

Frail, we fear,
but our fear stands alone:
our faith, it is here,
and our hope is regrown.

Between these, we swing,
like a great pendulum:
our hope on a string,
and our fears, genuine.

And meanwhile, our God
gazes down from above,
as our lost go to sod,
and we teach of His love.

Is He calling us home,
to our Heaven, our bliss?
Is He culling with comb,
taking us home like this?

We can’t know; we guess,
and we hold out our faith,
using our breath to bless,
living by what He saith.

But these times are so hard,
there is so much of pain –
leaving us scarred,
‘tho the death rate may wane.

And the fear does us harm,
as our stress is a thief,
raising the alarm,
and prolonging our grief.

So, in prayer, we rise,
and we show love to all,
for each one who dies
has answered the Call.

But we know it will end;
we hold on, we dream.
We cherish each friend;
we stifle our scream…

When it’s over and done,
and the danger has passed,
we’ll count losses, each one,
our grief, unsurpassed;

we’ll rise in mourning,
a unified cry;
pain blazing a warning,
as we ask our God “why?”

But we’ll get no answers,
God doesn’t speak loud;
just as with cancer,
all death is allowed.

So remind ourselves, now,
and tell every friend,
God made us a vow,
that He’ll keep, in the end:

that Heaven awaits,
for those who stay strong,
that death has no dates,
and God does no wrong;

that all, by His will,
happens by His plan;
that no measure of skill,
by man, cheats past His span.

So, we place our trust
in Him who protects;
we do what we must,
as His loyal subjects;

and we pray every day,
that His will be done –
that our strength will stay
‘til this battle be won.

The end, it will come,
For each, one and all –
right now, for some,
or later, withal.

To take it with grace
is expected of us,
right now, in our space,
with not too big a fuss,

as we isolate,
to keep others safe,
we cooperate,
our role, we don’t chafe;

supporting in love,
our family and friends;
and God, we speak of,
‘til this life, it ends.

My Dog; My Joy

IMG_9341 (2)

She snuggles me,
and kisses sweet,
my little dog,
who loves a treat,

And while I sit,
in fear or doubt,
she loves away
the slightest pout;

And belly-up,
legs akimbo,
she wags her tail,
all paws in limbo…

My little joy,
my cocoa muffin,
my sweetest girl,
so full of lovin’

What would I do,
without you here,
to bring me joy,
my little dear?

A Mother’s Love

blaze-bonfire-burn-211157.jpg

A slower kindle,
A softer ember;
Old youthful fire,
Now just a cinder.

Mellowed like wine,
Or a half-faded rose,
A calmer waltz,
That ebbs and flows.

Less moved to passion,
But when so, deeper;
My love overflows –
For my grandchild’s keeper.

What used to matter
Matters less;
I take more time…
More time to bless.

I look for joy,
Less frivolously;
I’ve found what’s true,
More thoroughly.

My wisdom blooms;
I try to share…
But most of all,
To show my care.

Above all things,
I’ve found a love;
And where I breathe,
I breathe thereof.

A softer gait;
A slower pace,
But my full heart,
It can embrace

The ones I love,
More deeply now,
And richer still,
And this I vow:

You are my joy,
Our chain of life:
And I live now,
Much less in strife.

So let me hold
You in my heart,
My dearest child,
And never part.

A Mother’s Treasure

child-clipart-10

She holds her child near,
Her child, so dear,
As the chair rocks to and fro…

It’s been a hard day,
And the long night is gray,
As she straightens the little hair bow…

Sleep may be far off,
for the little one’s cough,
Yet, the mother’s touch is sweet…

And the gentlest sway,
of the chair, just for bae,
is controlled by Mama’s feet…

The fire, nearby,
In the hearth, makes Mom sigh,
And her head drops down to doze…

Snuggled in place,
is that sweet, precious face,
and the child is in repose…

There’s rest, after all,
‘Till the morning’s bright call,
And the night is deep and mild…

A mother, she gives,
For as long as she lives,
To the care of her cherished child…

A Grandmother’s Promise

Grandma Lorraine Simpson Victorian Portrait.jpeg

Lorraine Simpson, Amarine’s Grandmother

Dedicated to my grandmother, Lorraine Simpson.
May she rest in peace – but I know she’s still watching over me…

A Grandmother’s Promise

A grandmother’s promise
To always be there,
To watch and care and love,

Is carried out long,
even after she’s gone,
As she watches from above.

She knows each mistake;
the chances you take,
But she never stops her cheering;

For each time you fall,
Not one time, but all,
Is a lesson not for fearing.

She spreads out her wings,
At times even sings,
In the hopes that your heart will hear,

And take strength from it,
Become inner-lit,
For to her, you are that dear.

You should never forget
How you two used to sit,
And she’d tell you all her stories,

For she’s never left;
You’re not so bereft,
And she revels in your glories.
